As for the traditional food of the Portuguese community, they are famous for their Portuguese Grilled Fish dishes whose recipes have spread throughout Malaysia. It is a grilled fish smeared with sambal paste made from shallots, garlic, hard fruit, galangal, lemongrass, ground chilli and tamarind juice. This is because the majority of them are fishermen so, fish is their main source of protein.
Furthermore, they are also famous for a dish known as Devil's Curry or Debal Curry. It is a chicken curry cooked with vinegar, hard fruit and chilli in large quantities (probably because many chillies are called Devil’s Curry). According to history, this recipe appeared long ago when the Portuguese married local women and it was a special food for them.
